A. The info
First off, lets not conflate snoring with apnea. They are closely related but not the same.
Snoring occurs when throat tissues relax and air accelerates in there. It results in a vibration which produces the well known sound: SNORING.
If the tissues relax too much, the oxygen levels become too low. We’re speaking of only two percentage units, from 21%, to 19,5%, and it’s considered so low, that the chemoreceptors in the brain tells you breathe and you might wake up due to this. This is an apnea. Greek for “shortness of breath”.
Why’s snoring bad then? It’s …
said to indicate the brain needs oxygen, and
Interrupting the glyphatic system’s cleaning mechanism. This builds up plaque.
LIFESTYLE Factors that play a role for snoring are lifestyle factors like body weight, sleeping position, allergies, diet, and alcohol consumption.
Comparison: Snoring vs. OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea)
Snoring stems from issues from some of these four places:
nose
mouth
tounge
throat
Obstructive Sleep Apnea might be the culprit of snoring. OSA means the airways are antomically blocked. Diagnosees, or people unaware that have this condition, might feel tired and a lack of energy throughout the day, and become used to it… which is not great!
When blood oxygen levels drop the heart pumps harder to get adequate oxygen around the body. This results in increased blood pressure.
Etymology:
Apnea = breathless
absence of + breath
B. My experience/view
I used to think it was cool to snore.
Chronic snoring is NOT good. It’s not funny or manly.
Personally I have my mouth taped.
I do this to make sure I’m nose breathing for a more rejuvenating sleep.

Personal experience
I think if you suffer from snoring or sleep apnea , try contacting a doctor. To see if it’s snoring and which place it stems from. Or if it’s apnea, see what you can do alleviate it.
